This series of posts will talk about how you use the Find tool in MapInfo.
The Find tool is extremely useful as on larger maps finding smaller items or street addresses can be extremely difficult. The Find tool makes finding anything on the map extremely quick and simple but marking whatever the item is on the screen so that you can easily spot it.
It is also useful to know that there is a Re-specify functionality within MapInfo which allows you to take an existing search and refine it.
To use the Find tool first you need to open the workspace which contains the data you want to search.
As usual this can be found under the File menu, then Open and then choose your data.
Once you have opened your daa click on the Map Menu and then choose Layer Control to see a list of all of the maps that are open in this workspace.
Click OK to close the Layer Control dialogue and then click on the Query menu and click on Find to actually run the search. This will bring up a dialogue box in which you can choose the object you are searching for and the symbol that you want to use to show it.
We will look at the Re-specify functionality in my next blog post.
