Another beginner's mapinfo blog post today, how to create a legend on your map.
Firstly you open the map menu and click on the create legend option. This bring up a dialogue box showing your legend frames, which should show all of the tables that are included in your map. This is where you can remove a dataset from the legend. You simply highlight it and then click the remove button just to the box's left.
Having done that you then need to use the Up and down buttons that are below the legend frames box to organise the datasets into the order in which you would like them to appear.
Having done this click Next and a new dialogue box will appear. This will ask you to choose a title for your legend, it will also ask a number of further questions about how you would like the legend to appear. In general it is best to just clear the default entries from these boxes if you want a simple legend.
Finally click finish and your legend will appear. If you would like to change the description for the datasets that are appearing you only need to double click on the individual dataset within the legend box and a new dialogue box will appear that very simply lets you do this.
Once you get the hang of this in mapinfo you'll find that creating a professional looking legend takes a couple of minutes.
